As of the beginning of the new month, this humble attempt at sharing and caring about primarily Americana music will come to an end. It’s given me an opportunity to let a few folks become more aware of a radio program and a passion for the music that was the focus of it. The passion hasn’t diminished, but with the radio program on semi-permanent hiatus, it is time to dim the lights and close the door on this particular venture. I’ve moved over to the No Depression “corral”, and will be setting up shop there for the next little while. Thanks to all who paid attention or participated, your efforts were appreciated if not rewarded! Thanks also to PR and the Hostguys crew for keeping the lights on and the links live.

As if having the number one college hoops squad in the land wasn’t enough, there’s a band from them parts that has a nice little record just out! I’m speaking of Tinhorn Molly and their latest and greatest, “Baby go Round”. They were gracious enough to send a howdy to the Hayride, which includes a link to a stream of the record! Give a listen, and if you decide to purchase, you can blame the Hayride.

We greatly enjoyed the debut album from Texas native Sarah Jarosz, “Song Up in Her Head” and played several cuts from it on the Hayride program this past summer. Apparently we weren’t the only ones captivated by this young phenom, Amazon.com recently included the album in its Top 100 of 2009, at an impressive #17! And the Boston Globe recently did a story about Sarah’s decision to attend the New England Conservatory of Music. Congrats to Sarah and we look forward to more intriguing sounds from her in the future.

And one of them is surely the one that involves going out on Black Friday evening and hanging with the Grainbelt boys over at the Garden Grill in Albany. The drinks are cheap, the music rings true, and hell you can even dance with the “Christmas Gorilla”! It all gets underway at 9pm, when by that point you will be well sick of relatives and turkey and shopping etc.

On Friday November 13 (beware the triskaidekaphobiacs) our gal Neko comes to the Calvin Theatre in Northhampton, Mass bringing Joey Burns and John Covertino from Calexico in tow.

And speaking of Northhampton, on Saturday November 14, the Winterpills, who hail from the unofficial capital of the Berkshires, will be performing with and prior to Grant Lee Phillips at the Linda Norris Auditorium at WAMC in Albany.

A couple of other upcoming shows of note to mark on the calendar,

Friday November 20 : The Meat Puppets and Saturday November 29th: Chuck Prophet, both at Valentines Music Hall.
